Full of Hate

I received another email from our “Mormon” friend.  I placed quotes around Mormon because I don’t think the author actually is a Mormon, or if he is – he really doesn’t know much about his religion (some of the comments in the email below represent beliefs that many Christian denominations hold but not Mormons).You can see the previous two parts of the discussion

You can see the previous two parts of the discussion here and here.  In his latest response, he completely ignores everything I said in my previous email and instead goes on a tirade about homosexuality.I don’t believe his story, but if it is true I hope he is convicted of assault and spends a large portion of his life behind bars reconsidering his position on the subject.  (This discussion is over.  I have no intention of justifying his email with a reply.)

i hate those nasty disgusting homosexuals who are possessed by lust and nasty faggot demons. i beat the crap outta one the other day. he tried to ask me out i told him that am Mormon and he said something nasty about my mother and i kicked him hard in the groin and he fell to the ground i then grabbed his legs and stomped him hard in the groin. he had to go to the hospital and they had to remove his balls. he deserved it.that’s what he gets for being that way. it is a sin to be that way and it’s better i smash his balls than he uses them to have sex with men. am doing him a favor. these homos need to realize that they either stop being that way or pay the price either in this life or the next. he payed the price in this life lets hope he doesn’t pay it in the next. i visited him in the hospital and told him that al pray for him that he will stop being that way. he hurled insults at me and i told him that i did him a favor in rupturing his testicles and that he can lead a better life now and do some good in the world.we should castrate all homosexuals who refuse to resist they lustful ways and that nasty evil faggot demon who screws them in the butt.

Even if the story is false the hatred it represents is not.  Mormons are adamantly against same-sex marriage.  (Mormons spent millions pushing Proposition 8 in California.)  I actually know a Mormon who thinks there will be a civil war fought over same-sex marriage.  He believes it will be Mormons vs. the rest of the United States in a battle to the death. With Mormons killing to defend their right not to perform same-sex marriages in their temples.  (No, I’m not joking.  I’ve had this conversation with someone – and he was being completely serious.)

That is some SERIOUS hate, and it is fostered by the LDS church.

(Most) Mormons will not encourage violence against homosexuals. They would not support or condone physical assault against someone just because of their sexual preference. Instead Mormons will encourage you to ostracize homosexuals – the church itself will go as far as to ban them from the building, revoke their priesthood powers (for males – females can never get the priesthood regardless of their sexual orientation), prevent them from partaking in religious sacraments, and even excommunication.

I can only imagine how difficult it must be for homosexuals raised in Mormon households.

Time to Start Claiming You’re Persecuted

A judge ruled against California’s prop 8 today, saying the ban against same-sex marriage violated the 14th amendment rights of gay and lesbian couples in California.  Specifically, it violated section 1:

No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

Proposition 8 was designed specifically to abridge the privileges of a specific category of people (homosexuals) and prevent them from obtaining the same legal protections and benefits enjoyed by opposite-sex couples who want to be married.  The ruling should come as no surprise.

This will now probably go to the Supreme Court, where hopefully the constitution will continue to be upheld.  If so, this will pave the way for equal rights in all 50 states.  (Same-sex marriage is already legal in 5 states and Washington D.C.)

Now for a prediction:  The homophobic Christians who voted to prevent others from having the same rights they enjoy will claim that allowing gays to get married will violate their religious freedoms and that giving equal rights to gays is persecuting Christians.Ugh.

Response From Our Anti-Gay Marriage Friend

I received a reply from the person who had previously sent me email about Homosexuality.


This will be my final reply. Friend, if you read 1 Corinthians 2:14, you will see why you cannot understand what I am saying. You are spiritually dead and blind. You are a child of the god of this world as we all are until we decide to step into the light of truth and accept the Saving Grace that only Jesus the very Son of the Most High God can provide.

To continue to argue is pointless, it’s like we speak different languages, because we do. I have been washed in the blood of the Lamb and have been granted spiritual discernment that you, as a non-believer could never comprehend. As the verse states, it’s “foolishness” to you because you cannot see spiritual truth. I mean no disrespect to you or any person, but until you come from the darkness into the light, all your pronouncements are as the babbling of a baby before they begin to understand speech. You use the Word of God only to ridicule it, digging deep to mount your attack, this hatred of God will be allowed for only so long before God puts a stop to all who take part in this practice.See Proverbs 9:10-12 and also psalm 111:10. Isaiah 41:12 puts it this way; “Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought.

Apparently you are unable to intelligently defend your position and explain why your religious views should be given special treatment, and why you wish to deny others the freewill you believe God gave them.

That’s fine, just be brave enough to admit it.  Claiming that I can’t understand your bigoted position because I haven’t been “granted spiritual discernment” is a cop-out.

I’m arguing that humans should all be treated fairly, regardless of whether or not their partner has the same type of sex-organs they do.  You are arguing that the sex-organs involved in any relationship should be a primary concern, and partners with similar sex organs should be treated as a sub-class of humans and should be denied certain rights. There is nothing spiritual to discern, this is a human rights issue.  I believe in equal rights, you don’t.

You have yet to demonstrate the harm in giving homosexual couples the same legal rights as heterosexual couples.  You have yet to explain how allowing two people who want to spend the rest of their lives together to get married is a “heinous” act.

If you’re fighting against homosexuals because you find the thought of two men having sex icky (or possibly because you find that thought arousing), that’s fine – but be honest about it.  Don’t pretend to be fighting God’s battle when what you are fighting for would clearly overstep God, and allow you to pronounce judgment on his behalf.

As I said before, hate gays all you want – that’s your right.  But give others the same free will you believe God has given you.  Enjoy your life, and let others do the same.

More Email – Homosexuality is a Sin

This is a continuation of a conversation that started in the comments of a YouTube video about my position on homosexuality.

The poster was arguing against giving homosexuals the same legal benefits opposite-sex couples enjoy. I argued that consenting adults should be able to make their own decisions.

Let God proclaim his own position.

What part of that definition does not apply?

You believe God gives everyone freewill and the ability to make up their mind for themselves, but at the same time, you want to legislate your morality legally and make adults who are fully capable of making their own decisions to obey YOUR will.  You are trying subvert God.

What about the people around them?  You have not demonstrated how giving homosexuals the same rights you enjoy will cause harm to you or anyone else.  Homosexual couples already exist, and they aren’t going anywhere.  We’re simply talking about giving them the same legal benefits as same-sex couples.  Please explain how this will harm anyone.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t God the one who is supposed to determine what is a sin, who will get punished for it, when they are punished, and by how much?  If so, why are you trying to take Gods place?  The Bible says “judge not lest ye be judged,” yet here you are condemning people and promising wrath from God.  Frankly, if God is omnipotent, I don’t think he needs you telling him when and where to spew his wrath… and he doesn’t need you to go around proclaiming who deserves to be punished if he  exists he’s capable of figuring that out on his own.

You’re welcome to dislike and disapprove of homosexuality as much as you want.  You can even teach your children to be as intolerant as you – that’s your right.  (Regardless of how much as I dislike it.)  But you do not have the right to prohibit someone else from having the same rights you enjoy just because YOUR religion says it’s bad.  There are plenty of religions and churches (even many Christian churches) that don’t have any problem with homosexual marriage.  Why should YOUR religion be given preferential treatment?  And why should your religious views be legally enforced on people who are not part of your religion?

That must mean you vote in favor of equal rights for homosexuals whenever possible, correct?  Otherwise, you would be doing more than proclaiming God’s position, you would be trying to legally enforce your intolerant views.

But I’m sure that’s not the case.

I’m sure you are in favor of letting people exercise their freewill even when you don’t necessarily like the decisions they make… right?  (Especially when their decision doesn’t affect you in any way.)

God also clearly said you shouldn’t eat shellfish or pork, or wear clothing made of blended fabrics. Do you “proclaim God’s word” adamantly to Red Lobster, Bob’s BBQ, and Walmart in order to stop them from blatantly ignoring direct commands from the Lord?

Do you speak out against any women blasphemous enough to speak in church or wear pants instead of a dress?

If not, why the inconsistency?  Are you really proclaiming God’s word, or just cherry-picking the verses you feel like obeying?

Fine, maybe I will.  I doubt it, but sure, let’s pretend your God actually does exist.  God can like or dislike homosexuality all he wants.  And he can punish or reward people for it however he sees fit.  That still doesn’t give YOU the right to make others obey your God.

Give others the same freewill you believe God has given you.  Enjoy your life, and let others do the same.
