This is a continuation of a conversation that started in the comments of a YouTube video about my position on homosexuality.
The poster was arguing against giving homosexuals the same legal benefits opposite-sex couples enjoy. I argued that consenting adults should be able to make their own decisions.
“My position has nothing to do with ME!!! I am proclaiming Gods position.”
Let God proclaim his own position.
“Isn’t it interesting how anyone who stands up for righteousness is called a bigot.”
1) A person who is utterly intolerant of any differing creed, belief, or opinion.
2) One who is strongly partial to one’s own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.
What part of that definition does not apply?
“The problem with consenting adults is that it doesn’t always take into consideration those around them. I have already gone over this point as well.”
You believe God gives everyone freewill and the ability to make up their mind for themselves, but at the same time, you want to legislate your morality legally and make adults who are fully capable of making their own decisions to obey YOUR will.  You are trying subvert God.
What about the people around them?¬† You have not demonstrated how giving homosexuals the same rights you enjoy will cause harm to you or anyone else.¬† Homosexual couples already exist, and they aren’t going anywhere.¬† We’re simply talking about giving them the same legal benefits as same-sex couples.¬† Please explain how this will harm anyone.
“Friend, again, sin is sin. And a heavy price will be exacted against all who participate in it.”
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t God the one who is supposed to determine what is a¬†sin, who will get punished for it, when they are punished, and by how much?¬† If so, why are you trying to take Gods place?¬† The Bible says “judge not lest ye be judged,” yet here you are condemning people and promising wrath from God.¬† Frankly, if God is omnipotent, I don’t think he needs you telling him when and where to spew his wrath… and he doesn’t need you to go around proclaiming who deserves to be punished¬†if he ¬†exists he’s capable of figuring that out on his own.
You’re welcome to dislike and disapprove of homosexuality as much as you want.¬† You can even teach your children to be as intolerant as you – that’s your right.¬† (Regardless of how much as I dislike it.)¬† But you do not have the right to prohibit someone else from having the same rights you enjoy just because YOUR religion says it’s bad.¬† There are plenty of religions and churches (even many Christian churches) that don’t have any problem with homosexual marriage.¬† Why should YOUR religion be given preferential treatment?¬† And why should your religious views be legally enforced on people who are not part of your religion?
“Firstly, I haven’t the power or influence to force my beliefs on anyone. I simply proclaim Gods position.”
That must mean you vote in favor of equal rights for homosexuals whenever possible, correct?¬† Otherwise, you would be doing more than proclaiming God’s position, you would be trying to legally enforce your intolerant views.
But I’m sure that’s not the case.
I’m sure you are in favor of letting people exercise their freewill even when you don’t necessarily like the decisions they make… right?¬† (Especially when their decision doesn’t affect you in any way.)
“If you disagree, you will have to take that up with God.”
Send him my way, when he gets here we’ll discuss it over breakfast, my treat.
“He has said to man;’thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind, for it is an abomination’. GOD DOESN’T APPROVE!!”
God also clearly said you shouldn’t eat shellfish or pork, or wear clothing made of blended fabrics. Do you “proclaim God’s word” adamantly to Red Lobster, Bob’s BBQ, and Walmart in order to stop them from blatantly ignoring direct commands from the Lord?
Do you speak out against any women blasphemous enough to speak in church or wear pants instead of a dress?
If not, why the inconsistency?¬† Are you really proclaiming God’s word, or just cherry-picking the verses you feel like obeying?
“You may say you don’t care what God says, I answer: YOU WILL!!”
Fine, maybe I will.¬† I doubt it, but sure, let’s pretend your God actually does exist.¬† God can like or dislike homosexuality all he wants.¬† And he can punish or reward people for it however he sees fit.¬† That still doesn’t give YOU the right to make others obey your God.
Give others the same freewill you believe God has given you.  Enjoy your life, and let others do the same.
